Austin’s Advice

At February’s Collective meeting, Austin McBride, the worship pastor at Church at the Oaks, stopped by to tell us a few of the things God has taught him in worship ministry. Check out Austin’s advice to fellow worship leaders and join us for our next meeting!

  • Learning to bury pride in ground

  • Learning to follow him fully

  • Learning to value people over production

Pride

  • this is not an opportunity for us to show off our gifting

  • Matthew 16:21-23

  • When we lift ourselves up, we rebuke what God has said worship is

  • Take time consistently to lay your pride before the Lord and be authentic about it

  • Take time consistently to worship God individually

Follow Him Fully

  • Matthew 16:24-25

  • If we try to be the savior of our own lives, we WILL lose it

  • To follow Him fully, you have to unplug some things from the power strip of your life

  • We take our plans and preferences and lay them at the foot of the cross

People Over Production

  • Luke 19

  • On the way to Jerusalem, to fulfill His task, Jesus took a detour to encounter Zaccheus

  • Excellence is required. But people must come first.

  • Making disciples takes top priority.

Establish a culture, protect your rest

Establish a sense of community with all the leaders, helpful to get advice from those older and wiser than you.
